Its called the hyper drug. In its diluted form, however, it has a different name "Fantasia". Sometimes passengers in FTL  are given a light dose to prevent space travelers from arriving at their destinations completely insane and the rest is sold at a high profit on the black market. The victim's minds are destroyed and they scream themselves to death.

En route to his new life in the Sirius colony, Detective Matt Dales receives a light dose. But instead of being destroyed by the overload of memories and sensations, he suppresses them, leaving him with post-traumatic stress flashes of future events.

 

Now, in a domed city where everyone is tracked every moment, a serial killer has found a way to move around undetected.  When their perfect system fails, the colonial government turns to the only detective trained outside that system, one who was trained on earth,  Detective Dales.

As he struggles to maintain control and follows a trail of clues and corpses, will his uncontrollable visions help him stop the killing before the mental barriers that hold the "mind rip" at bay collapse, taking his sanity? Or will the shadowy organization called "The Trust" discover his secret and erase him.
